FURIA spoil kyousuke debut, eliminate Falcons before IEM Cologne playoffs
In his first event with Falcons, Maksim "kyousuke" Lukin had a brilliant individual showing, but the team still failed to reach the playoffs of IEM Cologne after their second group stage loss, this time to FURIA.
Falcons started the series comfortably on Train, with kyousuke taking on a leading role right away. He notched 23 kills against only 12 deaths, delivering value on both sides of half-time en route to a 13-7 win.
Despite taking FURIA's map pick in decisive fashion, Falcons could not put FURIA away on their own pick of Mirage. Falcons surrendered a 9-5 lead on their CT side, as their defense crumbled against FURIA's firepower, highlighted by back-to-back 4Ks from Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato. FURIA evened the series with a 13-11 win on Mirage.
Pressure rose and frustrations surfaced on a decisive Dust2. Throughout the first two maps, kyousuke and m0NESY had been the primary sources of firepower for Falcons, but on Dust2, it was only kyousuke doing the heavy lifting early on. But as Falcons' 7-3 lead evaporated, even his guns went quiet, as FURIA strung 10 straight rounds together to complete the comeback and send Falcons home with a 13-7 win on Dust2.
Despite being eliminated, kyousuke finished the event with a stellar individual player rating of 1.37, third highest behind Danil "donk" Kryshkovets and Dmitriy "sh1ro" Sokolov. But it was an up-and-down event for m0NESY and a pretty bleak one for the rest of the Falcons roster. Nikola "NiKo" Kovač's negative event rating is his first negative event with Falcons, and it's his second worst event rating ever behind IEM Rio 2024.
