CS2 skins market cap surpasses $5 billion

The cosmetics have never been so popular.

The market for CS2 skins hit an all-time high today, May 6th, as it broke the $5 billion mark, according to Pricempire, a platform that offers real-time price tracking of skins.

The price of CS2 skins keeps on rising throughout 2025, while the value of popular cryptocurrencies Bitcoin and Ethereum has fallen.

Skins were introduced to CS:GO in 2013 via the "Arms Deal" update, and Valve kept adding new variants for the guns, knives, and even created the gloves as the years passed.

Even though CS2 skins have never been so popular, to the point that Valve reportedly made $82 million from cases alone in March, the developer has been shy when it comes to releasing meaningful updates to the game.

As first noted by the content creator ThourCS2, April was the first month in the history of CS2 "without an update with release notes or a blog post."

Meanwhile, professional players and casuals keep complaining about the state of CS2, particularly the rampant cheating in Premier and some of the game's core mechanics.
