Nouns win $20k BoomTV Code Freedom

Last night Nouns won BoomTV Code Freedom, topping the one-day event over Party Astronauts to take home the top prize of $12,500. The event featured Elevate, Nouns, Party Astronauts, and FLUFFY AIMERS alongside two ESL Impact teams and two mixteams, while also featuring an unusual format with pre-determined map for each match, meaning teams had to play all seven maps in the pool and Mirage twice (for some reason).

Despite the unusual format, Group A played out largely as expected, with the only results of note being PA's 13-7 win over Nouns on Vertigo while David "Xp3" Garrido's The Krubby Krabs also stole Vertigo 13-7 off of Shimmer. With this, Group A saw Party Astronauts and Nouns advance into playoffs while Shimmer and The Krubby Krabs were eliminated.

Over in Group B, the results were quite surprising, with Rent Money managing to make it out of their group with a 3-0 record following wins over FLUFFY AIMERS, FlyQuest RED, and Elevate. As for Elevate, they outright failed to make it out of groups with 0-3 due to a complete collapse that saw the team also lose to FLUFFY AIMERS and FlyQuest RED alongside the aforementioned loss to Rent Money. With that said, Rent Money and FLUFFY AIMERS were the two teams to advance while FlyQuest RED and Elevate missed out on playoffs.

In the playoffs, Nouns won their opening series with a quick 2-0 win over Rent Money, taking Inferno 13-6 before winning Anubis 13-4 without too much trouble. The other series ended up an equally decisive series for Party Astronauts, winning over FLUFFY AIMERS 2-0 despite Ben "ben1337" Smith missing the series due to a power outage. While fielding former teammate Brendan "Bwills" Williams as a stand-in, PA won Inferno 13-5 before taking Anubis 13-8 to set up a rematch with Nouns.

With the grand finals set and ben1337 back in the server, Nouns started the series with a 13-7 win on Dust2 before Party Astronauts answered back with a 16-13 overtime win on Vertigo to send the series onto Mirage. In this final map, Nouns claimed a close 7-5 CT-side before putting on a dominant 6-1 T-side to win the map 13-8 and the series 2-1.

The victory in BoomTV Code Freedom is Nouns' second event win this week after they previously won the NA Revival Cup on Sunday over NRG.
