The former NRG player has been benched on less than stellar terms

FugLy benched from Envy; takes aim at Nifty

The player has released a Twitlonger describing his acrimonious split with the team under Nifty's leadership.

After benching Bradley "ANDROID" Fodor on January 1st, Envy's roster has continued to disintegrate as the same fate has befallen Jacob "FugLy" Medina.

FugLy joined Envy in March of last year part of  the team's first major overhaul of their North American roster, which also saw them add ANDROID and Sam "s0m" Oh as replacements for Stephen "reltuC" Cutler and Taylor "Drone" Johnson.

During FugLy's nine-month tenure with the organization, Envy continued to struggle to find results, with last place finishes at ESL Pro League Season 9, IEM Chicago 2019, and DreamHack Masters Malmö 2019. More recently, the team managed to make it to the second round of ESL Pro League Season 10, but missed out on the Finals following losses to ATK and Singularity.

In a TwitLonger, FugLy explained his perspective on the team's problems during his tenure. Starting in August, the team came to the decision to cut Noah "Nifty" Francis from the lineup and look for a new IGL. Allegedly, once Nifty heard of this plan, he convinced the organization to cut AWPer Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek instead, without consulting the rest of the team.

FugLy further alleges that after Nifty nor Envy decided to consult him on the decisions to remove coach Zachary "Eley" Stauffer, or manager Taylor "Tailored" Broomall. Additionally, for the removal of ANDROID, he says that Ryan "ryann" Welsh was never consulted.

The player also contends that the organization was unable to give him a straight answer on whether they would offer him a stipend to move to the team's facility in Dallas, after initially saying he would not be required to relocate.

Finally, FugLy says that Nifty and Envy were not straightforward with their intentions to replace him, not informing him of his imminent benching until yesterday, nor that the team were looking at Turkish player Buğra "Calyx" Arkın, seemingly confirming the earlier report from Jarek "DeKay" Lewis.

Overall, he argues that the organization enabled Nifty to make every major decision unilaterally, which hurt the team and left it in a state of flux over the past nine months.

Dust2.us has reached out to Nifty regarding FugLy's claims, however at the time of publication he has not responded to the request for comment.

With FugLy on the bench, Envy are reduced to just:

  • United States Noah "Nifty" Francis
  • United States Ryan "ryann" Welsh
  • Canada Bradley "ANDROID" Fodor (Inactive)
  • United States Jacob "FugLy" Medina (Inactive)

With only two players still on the books, Envy will look to rebuild their lineup ahead of the start of ESL Pro League Season 11.
