PGL Copenhagen Major NA Closed Qualifiers moved up

This morning, PGL announced a slight change to the 2024 PGL Copenhagen Major RMR Closed Qualifiers for North America. Previously, PGL had set the closed qualifier to occur between January 19th and January 21st, but now that has been moved up by just one week to January 12th through January 14th, immediately following the open qualifiers.

The dates for the two open qualifiers for North America have remained unchanged. The first qualifier will run from January 8th through January 9th while the second qualifier runs from January 10th through January 11th. The closed qualifier will now happen immediately following the open qualifiers. This mimics the qualifier schedule that was used for the 2023 BLAST.tv Paris Major.

PGL CEO Silviu Stroie told Dust2.us that the reason for the change in dates was due to potential scheduling conflicts with other, publicly unannounced event dates as well as making the dates earlier.

As for North America, they will see more complications this go-around as there are only four spots available to the Americas region for the 2024 PGL Copenhagen Major, down from the five available for the BLAST.tv Paris Major. Additionally, there is no longer a guaranteed Legends spot for the top finisher at the 2024 PGL Copenhagen Major Americas RMR as Liquid, which held the spot, has transitioned to a European majority team.

Currently, the only team that has qualified for the Americas RMR is FURIA, as they were in the Legends stage of the BLAST.tv Paris Major. Four teams from North America will qualify for the closed qualifier while only three teams from the South American closed qualifier will move on.

Currently, there is no way to sign up for the qualifiers, given the need to first invite the top four teams for the closed qualifier, which will happen closer to the date of the start of the Major cycle.

#1 Open Qualifier - 2 teams qualify for Closed Qualifier (Jan 8th-9th)
#2 Open Qualifier - 2 teams qualify for Closed Qualifier (Jan 10th-11th)
Closed Qualifier - 4 invited + 4 qualified; 4 will go to the RMR (Jan 12th-14th)
Americas RMR - 4 NA + 3 SA from Closed Qualifier + FURIA, 4 spots in the Challengers Stage (Mar 1st-4th)
