Paqueta will play the rest of the RMR without a coach

Major miscommunication causes coaching chaos at RMR

A string of vague emails from BLAST created confusion over the coaching rules at the RMR.

After Dust2.us reported that LOS + oNe co-CEO Alexandre "kakaveL" Peres coached his team after allegedly not having permission to do so, it was revealed that Brazilian organization Paquetá was seemingly in a similar situation as they utilized manager Bruno "Rivas" Rivetti as a coach instead of João "righi" Righi.

At the BLAST.tv Paris Major Americas RMR, Dust2.us spoke with Rivas who explained that he believed he was allowed to coach the team as BLAST had sent an email confirming him as the replacement for righi, even asking for his Steam ID which suggested he would be acting as the team's coach.

The emails discussed travel arrangements, coach replacement, and overall the language was ambiguous and unclear, leading to confusion on the part of Paquetá, leading to them fielding a coach that would be disallowed under Valve's rules. As Valve are stringent in their rules regarding roster management, the decision to add any coaches beyond the deadline is out of BLAST's control.

Due to the confusion and integrity breach happening largely as a result of a communications and admiring breakdown from BLAST, Dust2.us understand neither team, LOS + oNe nor Paquetá, will be penalized for using a disallowed coach during day one.

In a a statement to the publication, Andrew Haworth, the commissioner of BLAST Premier and BLAST's Director of Operations and Productions, stated:

During day one of the BLAST.tv Major Americas RMR LOS + oNe & Paqueta had coaches stand behind the teams during their R1 loses [sic] that were not on the registered roster. There had been miscommunication between both parties & BLAST around the support staff travelling with the teams and their official registered rosters.

LOS + oNe & Paqueta will play the rest of the RMR without a coach behind the team in line with their registered roster. We have spoken to all involved parties and have deduced this was not an intentional breach of rules and will be taking no action against LOS + oNe or Paqueta.

In response to the situation, both LOS + oNe and Paqueta have provided the following statements.

Los Grandes has nothing to declare regarding this situation, as it believes that the tournament needs to take a stand, once registration has been made and our participation authorized.

Paqueta stated the following:

We received the news that Rivas will no longer be able to stay behind the team. We were taken by surprise because we only found out about it after the game. We had exchanged a few emails with BLAST that gave room for interpretation that he could participate. It's a very annoying situation that could have been avoided before the event or even before the game.

With this situation behind them now, day one ends for BLAST on shaky ground as tech issues, production issues, and communications issues have led to a less than ideal outcome for the Americas RMR.
