Gfinity Spring first round complete; favorites get wins*

oNe, Infamous, Mythic, AZIO, and Fam143 advance to the next round.

The first round of the upper bracket in the Gfinity Spring Series has completed, with oNe, Atlas, Grizzlys, Infamous, Fam143, Mythic, Las Vegas MiniGunners, and AZIO advancing to the second round of the upper bracket while the other seven teams (bar Zclan) move to the lower bracket.

First up in the round of sixteen, AZIO took on 13th Hour. Both maps were stomps for the AZIO side, with Ryan "Snakes" Amann and Michael "Grim" Wince picking up 2.00+ ratings on each map respectively.

Next, Mythic faced EGO, where the MDL side won 2-0. On Dust II, EGO managed a 6-9 Terrorist half, and even brought it to 11-12, but the 33 kills of James "hazed" Cobb were too much. The other map was a smashing victory for Mythic with hazed once again at the top of the score board, almost securing 120 ADR.

The next match to complete was the most controversial of the playoff matches, in which the little known Zclan took down MDL team Fam143 2-1. On Nuke, Zclan held control of the match for most of the game, Fam143 only ever managing three rounds in a row. Jake "shag" W. was the one to show up for Zclan on Nuke, picking up 30 frags.

On Cache, it was quite easy for the Fam143, as after Zclan won the first four rounds, the MDL side went 16-3 in rounds. Caleb "jaychancE" Davis went huge for Fam143 and picked up 33 kills in the 16-7 win. The decider map proceeded to then be a stomp for Zclan, with Grant "chundie" Jay putting up 122 ADR.

Afterwards, some MDL players reviewed the demos of the matches, and many accusations of cheating were levelled at the Zclan players. Here are two clips of Justin "NEX" McLellan and Erik "fl0m" Flom watching two different rounds.

EDIT: After this article was posted, CEVO overturned the match, giving Fam143 the win, and both "catgirl" and "slayer" have received bans. Zclan have been disqualified, with EGO receiving a forfeit win in the lower bracket.

In the fourth match of UB round one, Grizzlys took on Dignitas fe. The male side took the win 2-0. On Overpass, Dignitas fe actually got off to a strong lead, and took a 10-5 CT half lead over the fully Canadian side. Grizzlys set up a powerful defense, and Mathieu "INCREDIBLE" Bergeron helped to secure the map win for his team.

Train was an extremely one-sided affair, with Francis "NANO" Tremblay putting up 120 ADR to push Grizzlys to victory.

Four members of oNe were actually in Brazil at the time of their match against STORMBORNS, which resulted in team coach Olavo "chucky" Napoleão standing in for Alencar "trk" Rossato. Despite this, the full South American side easily won the match 2-0 (16-5 Cache, 16-5 Dust II). Victor "iDk" Torraca and Nicolas "NikoM" Miozzi were the two top performers on the two maps, each securing at least 24 frags, respectively.

Las Vegas MiniGunners faced The Mad Lads, which featured Torqued and Freedom 35 duo Sam "4sh0t" Mariano and Neil "montE" Montgomery alongside ESEA banned Canadians Victor "cardiac" Kwan and Loic "effys" Sauvageau. Despite the MDL level experience, the Las Vegas side took the win 2-0 (16-13 Nuke, 16-8 Inferno). Nuke was extremely back and forth, with the MiniGunners edging out the half lead 9-6. Despite the good play of montE, LVMG managed to close out the game 16-13.

The Mad Lads got off to a great 7-2 start on Inferno, but proceed to go 1-14 in rounds to eventually lose the match. Christopher "Spriggals" Spriggs was the one to step in the comeback turned stomp, picking up 24 kills.
