Could blameF help pull BIG out of their rut?

Media: German leaker claims blameF is headed to BIG

BIG are seemingly continuing their transition into an international composition.

According to German leaker, German Cs Leaks, BIG are targeting Fnatic IGL Benjamin "blameF" Bremer to take over leadership of the team as Lukas "FreeZe" Hegmann's contract is set to expire at the end of the year. The move would see blameF leave Fnatic after seven months and see him return to the IGL role after serving under Rodion "fear" Smyk on the international lineup.

Should the move come to fruition, BIG would continue their slow march into becoming an international team after acquiring Gleb "gr1ks" Gazin from HEROIC back in October. The pivot follows a fairly dreadful year for Germany's top organization as BIG missed out on both Majors this year while also ending the year outside of the Top 30 on the Valve Regional Standings (VRS).

The crisis is largely precipitated by a leadership crisis within BIG, which saw Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz hand off IGL duties to former assistant coach Lukas "FreeZe" Hegmann in October. However, outside of a few online wins that change has failed to reverse course for the team while FreeZe has struggled immensely individually, ending the year with a 0.85 rating over 40 maps.

According to German Cs Leaks, BIG are also in discussions to sign Josef "faveN" Baumann while Jon "JDC" de Castro and David "prosus" Hesse are potentially on the chopping block.

As tabseN told Dust2.us in an interview at DreamHack Showdown Atlanta, the German CS2 scene is not in a strong place at the moment, necessitating a move to international talent.

Should blameF leave Fnatic for BIG, it would see the Dane take a step down in the rankings while being able to return to the leadership role he first became notable for with the likes of Astralis, HEROIC, and Complexity. What this means for Fnatic is currently unknown, but the move could lead fear and co. to transition further into a Ukrainian lineup or stay international, with the former certainly raising questions about Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson's future within the organization.
