empathy: "We're definitely the best Impact team from NA in a while"

Lucy "empathy" Verkaik of Supernova Comets chatted with Dust2.us' Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore following her team's exit in the round of 16 after a loss to Brazilian side Game Hunters at Fragadelphia x LVL UP EXPO Vegas. empathy commented on Comets' results so far this year, their prospects going forward, and their chances at the ESL Impact League Season 7 Finals in Dallas, among other topics.

Looking at the Impact Finals, you've been to plenty of the Dallas and European Impact Finals, but it's always making it out of the group stage that has alluded you. With this squad, do you feel like you're the most poised now to make it to the playoffs? What are your thoughts on breaking the NA Impact playoffs curse?

I think out of any of the teams so far, we definitely have the best shot. I think the competition right now is really hard, we're definitely the best team from NA in a while, I think.

We have a good chance, I think we probably make it through, but it's hard to say. It's hard to gauge how good the teams from other regions are when you never get to play against them.

Looking at this team holistically as well, how do you feel the firepower of this team stacks up to previous iterations? Do you think this team has the most firepower of any roster you've played on or any NA roster in general? What are your thoughts on that?

I think so, I think we have really high ceilings. I think Stx is way more experienced than any of my teammates in Impact have been and so are all my teammates. The floor is way higher than on previous teams and the potential is way higher.

I feel confident saying this is the best iteration, if not just for firepower, for how well we play around each other. It feels more like an Advanced or low-tier ECL team than it does an Impact team.

What does the future hold for the squad? What are the long-term goals as we're heading into the back half of 2025?

Definitely making ECL. I feel like we're right on the cusp of being good enough. We've had a lot of really good results, but it's pretty mixed. I think this Advanced season, we have a lot of potential for it, but it will be hard. I think we can do it if we just lock in.
