paiN stay alive in Copenhagen after intense battle
paiN have just barely survived elimination in the PGL Major Copenhagen against TheMongolz, winning a difficult series 2-1 that at multiple times could've gone the other way. paiN are now hoping to keep the ball rolling in Copenhagen and claim a spot in the Royal Arena alongside Imperial and FURIA.
The series against TheMongolz started with their pick of Mirage. paiN could not stop the opponents' attack, as the Brazilians were only able to secure four rounds on the CT-side after an 0-3 start. The second half was a bit more positive, but TheMongolz's lead was too much to handle, as they would win their map pick 13-9.
paiN's pick was Nuke, a reliable map for the Brazilians. Everything started going well for paiN, as they were able to reverse a 0-4 deficit into a 7-5 lead going into the CT-side. TheMongolz wouldn't give up just yet, as they would win the T-side pistol round and, although they lost the following round, a four round win streak would put TheMongolz up 10-8. paiN stopped the nonsense and took Nuke 13-10.
The decider map was Inferno and it was very balanced at the start, as both teams exchanged blows throughout the first half, with no one leading at halftime. It was "Save Simulator" for the Mongolians to start the second half as paiN created a 9-6 lead. TheMongolz tied the game at 10-10 before paiN reached 12. The Brazilians could have closed the game 13-10 but a botched spray allowed a bomb defuse that sent the game to the last round of regulation. This botched hold would unfortunately give way for another blunder from paiN as TheMongolz capitalized on a botched post-plant from paiN to take the series into overtime.
Overtime turned out to be an incredibly back and forth affair for both teams, with TheMongolZ conceding the first match point in overtime before paiN did the same in the second overtime. Ultimately, the map would finally go the way of paiN with a 22-19 win thanks to a leading performance from Lucas "lux" Meneghini.
The dream of reaching the Royal Arena is still alive for paiN, as they survive one more day of the Elimination Stage with a 1-2 record.
