Shimmer win ESL Impact Cash Cup Spring #9
Just a month after winning ESL Impact Cash Cup Spring #7 against Limitless Angels in the grand final, Shimmer did the same this past weekend, completely demolishing the runner-ups in the final series of the event.
With less than a month before the start of the ESL Impact Season 5 LAN Finals, this win can help Shimmer gather some momentum going into the Dallas tournament and, finally, grab a playoff spot in the international LAN for the first time.
Only seven teams registered to play this ESL Impact Cash Cup, with Shimmer enjoying a first-round bye, meeting Aware Impact in the semifinals. Aware Impact made Shimmer work for the win in both maps, as Lilith "gadfly" Mize and co. would go down 13-7 on Anubis and 19-17 on Ancient.
Meeting Shimmer in the grand finals would be Limitless Angels, who have undergone some major roster changes. The Angels faced the former core of WG Bandits in the first-round and came out victorious 13-10 on Ancient. In the semifinals, Angels played Nouns fe, who also featured two stand-ins, and another two close maps followed, as the Limitless squad won 13-8 and 13-9 on Overpass and Vertigo, respectively.
Surprisingly, the grand finals were the event's second biggest blowout series. Shimmer couldn't one-up Nouns fe's 13-0 win over EQUITY, but they were close, as Limitless Angels could only claim two rounds in the first map and one in the second. After the quick wins on Overpass and Mirage, Shimmer claimed the $750, while Limitless Angels got the second prize of $250.
