Shimmer announce new fifth

It's a thunder from down under!

Just a few days after Lisa "lisa" Nguyen, the team's IGL, revealed that she would be leaving the squad to focus on nursing school, Shimmer have announced the player that will be joining the team, at least, until the end of their ESL Impact Season 4 run.

Phoebe "Phoebe" Winter comes from Tasmania, Australia, and will temporarily relocate to the USA to play with Lucy "empathy" Verkaik and co.

According to empathy herself, the team has been eyeing Phoebe for some time now, as she has been playing ESL Impact Cash Cups in Oceania. Phoebe was the first choice to replace lisa after the former IGL signaled the team that she would not be able to focus on the game's competitive side. As the Aussie player was unable to qualify for the Valencia LAN Finals through the Asia qualifier, empathy and the team contacted Phoebe, and the player grabbed the opportunity to join the roster.

empathy told Dust2.us that the squad is hopeful they can finally get organizational support, making it possible for Phoebe to join the team long-term. Shimmer was the only squad that could reach last season's LAN Finals without having any organization backing them.

The change comes at a tough time for the team, as Shimmer will have two very difficult games that they need to win if they want to go to Valencia. FlyQuest RED on Saturday and EG Gold on Sunday are the team's obstacles. The squad hopes Phoebe can quickly hit the ground running and propel them to two important wins.

Abigail "abby" Deters, even before lisa announced her departure from the team, had already tweeted out that she would be the one taking over the IGL role going forward.

With the new addition, Shimmer are now:

  • United States Abigail "abby" Deters

  • United States Lucy "empathy" Verkaik

  • Canada Julie "Bouchard" Bouchard

  • United States Lynn "Lx" Clarke

  • Australia Phoebe "Phoebe" Winter

Phoebe's debut under the Shimmer banner will come on Saturday against FlyQuest RED.
