The Brazilian coach stands alone

Report: FURIA coach leaving

The Brazilian Major Semi-Finalists appear to be losing their longtime assistant.

In a report this morning from Dust2 Brasil, FURIA assistant coach Marcos "tacitus" Castilho will be leaving the organization by the end of the season. tacitus has declined to renew his contract, which expires at the end of the month, and will look for a new team by the end of the season. The decision was described as "mutual" as tacitus looks for a head coaching role.

tacitus has been a mainstay of the North American region for years with his first significant coaching opportunity coming in the form of the now defunct Triumph. He joined as an analyst in April 2020, only to ascend to the head coaching role in a matter of months.

It was there, leading a team with NA mainstays such as Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman, Michael "Grim" Wince, and Paytyn "Junior" Johnson, that the Brazilian was able to gain enough recognition to move on to FURIA.

Joining FURIA in June 2021, his time as an assistant was critical to the squad, as he would go on to feature at several in-person LANs where Valve-banned Nicholas "guerri" Nogueira was not allowed to be on stage or work with the team.

These LANs included PGL Stockholm 2021 and PGL Antwerp 2022. tacitus was not on stage with the team at IEM Rio 2022 as the organization elected to bring in André Akkari, the organization's co-owner, as a coach.

With tacitus now exploring his options once again on the open market, there are potential landing spots for his services in Liquid, Complexity, and Evil Geniuses, all of whom do not have an assistant coach with the pedigree of tacitus. Should tacitus be looking for a promotion to a head coaching role, he might have more difficulty there as each have established coaches. One would hope that North America does not lose someone of his talent, but tacitus might find more opportunity in Brazil than in the American landscape.

tacitus' departure now means that FURIA will look like this:

  • Brazil Andrei "arT" Piovezan

  • Brazil André "drop" Abreu

  • Brazil Kaike "kscerato" Cerato

  • Brazil Rafael "saffee" Costa

  • Brazil Yuri "yuurih" Santos

  • Brazil Nicholas "guerri" Nogueira (coach)
