Complexity and EG headline Thunderpick NA Series #2
GAM3RS_X and GRID have announced the team list for the second and final Thunderpick World Championship North American Series. The tournament will yet again be a single-elimination BO3 bracket with the four high-seeded teams joining the $25,000 competition in the quarterfinals.
After some confusion whether Evil Geniuses would be playing in the European or North American Series' or even be invited to the group stage of the $500,000 tournament, it has now become clear what the situation is. Alongside Complexity, Nouns, and Party Astronauts, EG will be jumping into the single-elimination bracket in the quarterfinals after the initial sixteen teams have fought down to just four.
Yesterday we reported that Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli has finally secured a P1 visa for the United States, so the team will not need to play with any stand-ins as in previous events on home soil. Another recent change to the teams' compositions is Bobby "stamina" Eitrem's second departure from Nouns. It is currently unclear who be replacing him, however.
In the early stages of the bracket, the starting sixteen teams are headlined by Bad News Bears and Reason Gaming. It is worth noting that both Wildcard and M80 have already secured their place in the European tournament, so are unable to participate in the second series.
The eventual winners of the second series will join those two at their guaranteed European bootcamps for the main event which will be played online in Europe. Other teams hoping to reach the required top two placement from the Round of 20 include Badass, 7AM, Limitess, FLUFFY AIMERS, and The Jungle.
The single-elimination bracket is scheduled to begin on August 21st, culminating in the grand final on the 29th. The winner will take home $20,000, with $5,000 to the runners-up, both securing a European bootcamp and a slot in the main event.
