Swisher leaves Bad News Bears

Swisher has yet to comment on what he will be doing next.

Earlier today, Michael "Swisher" Schmid announced that he is leaving Bad News Bears. This news follows a report by Dust2.us, detailing a potential new roster for Extra Salt, led by Damian "daps" Steele and featuring Swisher, among others.

Swisher was one of the two remaining founding players in Bad News Bears, alongside Gabe "Spongey" Greiner. That team came together in January of 2021, and put together an impressive string of domestic results despite not being signed to an organization. These results included winning ESEA Premier Season 36 undefeated in the regular season, multiple ESEA Cash Cup victories, and qualifying to IEM Cologne 2021.

Despite the relative success Bad News Bears were unable to break through to the next level, even after several roster moves. The loss of Swisher is a serious blow to their hopes of reaching that next level, as he averaged a 1.10 rating througout his tenure in the team.

For now, Bad News Bears are:

  • United States Gabe "Spongey" Greiner
  • United States Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman
  • United States Paytyn "junior" Johnson
  • United States Brendan "Bwills" Williams
  • United States Nathan "madcow"Retterath (Coach)

Despite the announcement, Swisher is still playing with Bad News Bears in this weekend's ESEA x Fragadelphia Winter Cash Cup, with their next match set to come against Erik "fl0m" Flom's BOOZOOMERS mix tomorrow.

Bad News Bears still have time to find a replacement for Swisher, as ESL Challenger Season 40 is set to begin on January 18th, 2022.
