Is the BLAST Showdown the final, final CS:GO event?

BLAST decides against CS2 for Showdown

The organizer has decided against using the new game.

While the rest of the world seems to be moving forward with Counter-Strike 2, BLAST has made the tough decision to stick with CS:GO for now. With the BLAST Fall Showdowns happening in Europe and North America so soon, the Copenhagen organizer is looking to use the older version.

There is only one week remaining between now and the Fall Showdown, forcing BLAST to make the difficult choice to host the event on the previous iteration. HLTV stated that BLAST believes there is not enough time for participating teams to adequately prepare to compete in Counter-Strike 2 following the full launch just last night. The BLAST Fall Finals will be played on Counter-Strike 2.

Players have already voiced their opinions on the decision, with Imperial IGL Vinicius "VINI" Figueiredo criticizing the choice. In a tweet, VINI said that it will be "really hard finding teams in CS:GO to practice" and that moving to CS2 "would be fun for people watching" and even a "fun challenge" for the players.

BLAST is hosting the Americas Showdown on October 4th through October 8th and will include teams like Liquid, Imperial, and Mongolz. Below is the full team list for the upcoming event.

United States Complexity
United States Evil Geniuses
Brazil FURIA
