EG stumble against Vitality
Following a strong and much-discussed win against Heroic to open up the BLAST Premier Spring Groups, morale was extremely high in the EG camp heading into today's match against Vitality. Unfortunately for the revitalized roster, high morale wasn't enough to secure another upset win as the Seattle-based squad fell 2-0 to Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut and co. in a close showing on Overpass and a complete blowout on Inferno.
Evil Geniuses began Overpass on the T-side, losing the initial pistol round before coming back to win the next three rounds. The remainder of the half would eventually see Vitality take control and win their CT-side 9-6, but not for a lack of trying from Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte, who ended EG's T-side with 15 kills and a 1.39 rating as he looked to keep his team competitive heading into the second half. Unfortunately for EG, the second half of Overpass is where things began to slip as Vitality won their second pistol round of the series, using their momentum to climb all the way to match point before EG could make it to double digits. After one more round from EG, Vitality ended Overpass 16-11 with Lotan "Spinx" Giladi leading the charge with a 1.71 rating.
Moving onto Inferno, there isn't a whole lot to say as EG were absolutely bullied by an absolute heater from ZywOo. Over the course of the beatdown by the Frenchman, EG only managed to find a single round before falling 16-1. While ZywOo's massive 2.35 rating definitely played a role in EG's downfall, the team's failure to win a single pistol round over the course of the series is another important contributing factor.
EG will now face off against the winner of Astralis vs. Heroic on January 24th at 09:00AM.
