The Brazilians found themselves outclassed by Spirit

Spirit send FURIA packing at PGL Antwerp Major

Only one player from the Americas now remains in the Major.

The second quarterfinal of the PGL Antwerp Major has wrapped up, seeing CIS underdogs Spirit move past FURIA in 2-0 fashion. This secures Spirit a spot in the semifinals, where they are now set to tussle with FaZe.

This quarterfinal matchup between FURIA and Spirit is not the first time the two have met this event, as Spirt bested FURIA 16-12 on Nuke in the opening round of the Legends Stage. This rematch kicked off on FURIA's choice of Vertigo, where Spirit started on the T-side. Things were fairly close to start, with Spirit claiming the first two rounds before FURIA answered back with three of their own. Spirit composed themselves and put together five rounds in a row to post a staunch 7-3 lead. The Brazilians, undeterred by this development, rallied five rounds of their own to edge out the lead at the half 8-7.

A 1v2 from André "drop" Abreu secured the second pistol round for FURIA, but Spirit immediately countered with a four-round streak. FURIA managed to put a halt to Spirit's run with three rounds of their own to reclaim the lead 12-11. FURIA were unable to keep this momentum up for long, as Spirit got back to their winning ways, snagging five rounds in a row to steal away FURIA's map pick 16-12.

Spirit kept up the pace on their pick of Ancient, as they secured four of the first five rounds to build a solid lead on their T-side. FURIA scraped together a response, posting five rounds in a row to take lead 6-4. Spirit were unphased by FURIA's retort, claiming four of the next five rounds to secure an 8-7 lead heading into their CT-side.

The second pistol round went to the CIS squad, who managed to convert it to secure three additional rounds to stretch their lead to a 12-7 scoreline. With their backs to the wall, FURIA managed to piece together a round of their own, but it did little to stop Spirit, who continued to shut out the Brazilian squad. After FURIA's brief interruption, Spirit put up four more in a row to close out the map 16-8, locking in their spot in the semifinals.
