CLG outlast Luminosity; claim spot in Minor playoffs
Group B winners CLG and Luminosity met on Train — the latter's most played map, to see who would gain safe passage to the Minor playoffs with a clean 2-0 record.
The two teams had last met in the WCA North America qualifier, where the Brazilians emerged victorious to earn a trip to China for the main event.
Luminosity kicked off the match by taking the pistol on the back of three kills from Gabriel "NEKIZ" Schenato, but were immediately reset by the deagles of CLG. Luminosity were able to recover, winning three rounds in a row before CLG busted off a six round streak of their own, which featured a nice quad kill by Ethan "nahtE" Arnold against a light buy. The half ultimately ended 8-7 in favor of the North American squad.
CLG claimed their Counter-Terrorist pistol, as well as the following round. Not to be outdone, Luminosity went on a six round tear of their own, largely on the back of Gustavo "SHOOWTIME" Goncalves. CLG countered with five rounds of their own, which brought the score to 15-13.
With their backs against the wall and aided by a near-ace from Vinicios "PKL" Coelho, Luminosity were able to keep themselves alive and fight for overtime. However, it was not to be, as CLG regrouped to claim their sixteenth round in the final round of the game.
