Liquid got back into form at IEM Chengdu

Quick turnaround for Liquid ahead of EWC qualifier

The international squad are hoping for some online success this week.

The Esports World Cup Open Qualifiers begin tomorrow with Liquid as the biggest team to enter the online competition in North America. The squad are coming off a respectable quarterfinal finish at IEM Chengdu with their only losses at the event to come at the hands of the two finalists, MOUZ and FaZe.

Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis posted a story at approximately 03:00AM on his Instagram alongside teammate Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis of the two sitting aboard their flight back home from China with the caption "Travel to NA for more qualifiers".

With an approximate travel day anywhere from sixteen to twenty-four hours, the Liquid squad are going to certainly be exhausted from their international flights before playing in another online event.

Liquid had to endure a similar situation following the 2024 PGL Copenhagen Major Americas RMR where after devastatingly losing to Complexity in the final match, they had to immediately fly over to Europe to play in the online BLAST Premier Spring Showdown where they lost to eventual winners SAW. Other participants Complexity and Elevate also experienced the rough travel which affected their performance.

Wildcard also participated in IEM Chengdu and are signed up to play in the Esports World Cup North America Open Qualifiers, however due to their early elimination they were able to travel home a bit earlier than their regional compatriots.

The Esports World Cup Open Qualifiers begin tomorrow and will end on April 17th. The Closed Qualifier is set to begin the following day with M80 and Legacy already invited to the competition. Liquid are hoping to join Complexity, who were directly invited, to the main event in Riyadh later this summer.
