Elite Wolves to WESG Americas Regionals over Thunder Awaken

The Peruvian WESG qualifier comes to a close, ushering in a new contender from South America.

The finals of the WESG Peru qualifier began with a map veto with Cache for Thunder Awaken, Mirage for Elite Wolves, and a decider on Train.

Elite Wolves started off big with a bomb plant and explosion to win the pistol round, netting them a significant amount of early game money. Even with the early advantage, they managed to lose the following round and the three after. Only able to gather three rounds the rest of the half, Elite Wolves were in dire straits going into their Terrorist-side. Much to their dismay, they failed to secure the pistol round which led to Thunder Awaken winning out in a crushing 16-3 fashion.

Mirage was a significantly more balanced game. It began to look like the start of a swift 2-0 for Thunder Awaken before Elite Wolves finally broke through their defense and strung five rounds together to get themselves on the scoreboard. Both teams traded rounds before the half ended 8-7 in favor of Thunder Awaken.

The series leaders continued their string of rounds into the second half by taking the pistol and both eco rounds, but that is where their good fortune ended. With their backs against the wall and facing elimination, Elite Wolves kicked it into 12th gear by virtually winning out the rest of the map, ending it 16-12 and taking it to the final map.

Riding the momentum from their previous comeback victory, Elite Wolves started strong by taking the first five rounds before their opponents could disrupt their economy by taking one of their own.  After bringing the scoreline to 8-1, Thunder Awaken finally found an opening in the CT-defense and put four rounds together in a row, giving them a very modest five rounds before the half ended 10-5.

Fighting for their tournment lives, the trailing team picked up the pistol on their CT-side and the light buy round after but were stopped in their tracks come the first gun round by Elite Wolves. Heavy casualties and close rounds left the CT's with an unstable economy that never had the chance to build up, ultimately leading to their demise. Elite Wolves closed out the map 16-10 and thereby secured themselves a spot at the WESG Americas Regional LAN Finals.
