DreamHack Valencia Open Qualifier day one results

The first day of the DreamHack Valencia Open Qualifier came to a close yesterday with 108 teams eliminated in the Bo1 bracket, leaving only 16 teams to fight for the four available spots in the Closed Qualifier on Sunday.

Many of the usual qualifier suspects, such as Torqued, Bravado, Swole Patrol, F1-racecar-PEEK, and Armada to name a few, breezed through their respective sides of the bracket with little contention.

With so many high-level teams entering this qualifier, upsets were bound to happen, though it's rare that we see quite so many in one event.

Starting from the top of the bracket and working our way down, the Colombians of VAULT who now sit in the Advanced Division of ESEA, were taken out by the Main team of Skizm in their second match. Dignitas, who fielded the help of ex-teammate Ryan "Snakes" Amann, instead of their Cologne Qualifier stand-in, Ronnie "ryx" Bylicki, went on to eliminate Mythic, though, this time not via forfeit. Gorilla Gang wrapped up the first half notable matches, as they bested not only CLG Red in their first game of the day, but Glockoma as well in the third round match.

The lower half of the qualifier bracket saw Impact snuffed out by Armada, AZIO knocked out by the Intermediate team of Coastal, and MDL veterans The Pioneers were toppled by Main team of mystic. Prominent Brazilian team, oNe, went on to fall to recently promoted Crystal Vision of the new Advanced League.

Most notably in this latter half of the bracket were the elusive ez money crew, comprised of Sean "seang@res" Gares, Peter "ptr" Gurney,  Jake "theTRUTH" Hass, Tyson "TenZ" Ngo, and Sam "s0m" Oh. After taking out Bushido Boyz in their first round match, the all-star pug went on to claim victory over any and all who fell in their path, and now sit in the top 16.

These teams need only survive two more rounds of matches to claim their spots in the Closed Qualifier on Sunday, which resumes today at 4:00 PM EDT.
