Renegades falls to mousesports in day three of IEM Sydney; Nifty pops off

The last light of hope for Australia gets snuffed out in Sydney after mousesports eliminates Renegades 2-1 in the quarterfinals.

The first day of the IEM Sydney playoffs saw Renegades eliminated by mousesports in a heated 1-2 series that saw multiple overtimes throughout it's duration. The European mix now advances to the semifinals, with the last Australian team in the event sent packing.

Their series began on mousesports' pick of Mirage, where they set the tone by claiming the first seven rounds on their CT-side. Towards the end of the half, Renegades managed to pull themselves together somewhat, securing a passable five rounds themselves by the conclusion of their T-side. After switching sides, mousesports quickly claimed the remaining rounds they needed to close things out 16-7.

Moving onto Inferno, the feud between the two teams began to blaze. Renegades started things off on the right foot by securing the pistol and subsequent two rounds that followed as they begun their T-side, but were quickly swept away by the mousesports side, as they all but won out the half shortly after 11-4.

The second half of Inferno was one for the story books, as Noah "NIFTY" Francis single-handedly drug Renegades back from the brink of death, with an ungodly amount of fragging power that allowed them to bring the map to overtime. An impressive display of mental fortitude for the Renegades side carried them through three bouts of overtime, where they would eventually squeeze out the rounds they required to claim their first map in the series, 25-23.

The final map saw the two meet on Train as the decider for the series. The first half saw mousesports take an early lead with five straight rounds on their T-side before Renegades would finally reply with one of their own, allowing them the economy they needed to win out the half 8-7 in their favor.

mousesports strung another five consecutive rounds together to start their CT-side after the two had swapped roles, only four rounds from closing out the series. Renegades persevered, however, able to piece together just enough of a T-side offense to pull themselves back into the game and attain match point on the 29th round. The final round of the half ended in a heart crushing loss for the Aussies, which would take yet another map to overtime, despite Justin "jks" Savage's 3k that nearly secured them the series.

After four brief rounds, mousesports ended the map and series 19-15, bringing Renegades IEM Sydney run to an end, and the native fans to a deafening silence.
