Report: M80 set to unveil German AWPer

M80 will look to level up their firepower after their European bootcamp.

According to sources close to Dust2.us and HLTV, M80 are set to replace Swedish-American AWPer Adam "WolfY" Andersson with German import Fritz "slaxz-" Dietrich, with the move coming shortly after M80 returned from their European bootcamp.

The decision to replace the team's AWPer follows a mixed time in Europe for the recently-formed squad, seeing M80 pick up wins in CCT East Europe Series #3 against Nexus and Anonymo but failing to make a splash in Thunderpick World Championship 2023. In the latter event, M80 were eliminated in two somewhat one-sided series to MOUZ and Complexity.

While these losses were some expected, WolfY notably struggled to find his footing against this level of competition, ending the European with a 0.94 rating over 16 maps. While he did have a number of strong maps, other times he really struggled with finding impact in the European Counter-Strike 2 landscape.

The incoming replacement for WolfY, slaxz-, joins M80 after almost a year under German organization ALTERNATE aTTaX. The 24-year-old player is a well regarded piece in the German tier-two scene having climbed through the ranks over a number of years with previous stints on Berzerk, a pervious iteration of ALTERNATE aTTaX, and Sprout. During his time with Sprout, he notably won ESEA Premier Season 39 and helped the team climb to 19th in the world before being replaced by Adrian "XELLOW" Guță.

In Europe, slaxz- currently boasts a 1.20 rating over 239 maps, with M80 likely gambling this level will translate to slaxz- being a dominant AWPer stateside.

His addition to the team is expected to come in short order, with M80 having already signed the player. It is important to also note that M80 will still be able to play in and qualify for the Americas RMR with this addition with the team still possessing a core of Americas players.

M80 is expected to be:

  • United States Michael "Swisher" Schmid

  • United States Ethan "reck" Serrano

  • Guatemala Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa

  • Denmark Marcus "maNkz" Kjeldsen

  • Fritz "slaxz-" Dietrich

  • Rory "dephh" Jackson (Coach)
