NiKo: "HooXi has our full support like he had before"

G2 is heading to the LANXESS Arena after beating FaZe in the Upper Bracket.

As one of the few teams who didn't make a change this offseason, G2 got off to a rough start for the second half of the year. The team that won IEM Katowice back in February has struggled to recapture that scintillating form, crashing out of BLAST Spring Groups recently at the hands of the new-look NAVI. Following their win against FaZe which earned them a spot in the playoffs at Cologne, Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore of Dust2.us caught up with Nikola "NiKo" Kovač.

Please note that the full interview can be found below on YouTube, while the transcript has some key snippets from their conversation.

You mentioned the fact that the team has struggled with having consistent results since winning Kato. What do you think contributes to that inconsistency? Is it the overly busy schedule like you mentioned earlier or what makes G2 have amazing peaks but also disappointing lows?

I'm honestly not sure. We were just not good enough and maybe we haven't been progressing too much in practice maybe that's the reason. We have struggled a lot on the CT sides, that was one of the biggest issues for consistency. You need to have good CT sides if you want to be the best in the world and I think for this event our CT sides have improved massively and we just have to keep working on it. I think we can go far.

I wanted to ask you about something Hooxi said to Dust2.dk at BLAST Fall. He mentioned that he was worried about potentially being replaced or potentially having his spot taken in the lineup heading out of the player break. Is there any reality to that or did he have any reason to be worried about being cut? Was that something that was actually discussed or does he still have your full confidence?

I mean it's safe to say that we did not have the best season apart from winning Katowice before this so it was just down to G2 if they were going to make a change or not and they decided to not make any changes and we stick together. I think for this event for example, it's really showing for us that we are a more experienced team, we have more solutions for the game and that once we start losing that we always have something in our pocket to come back. Yeah I am happy that we stayed and it just came down to G2 deciding if they wanted to make a change or not.

You mention that you're relatively happy with that. Does that mean HooXi has your full support as the leader on your team?

Yeah of course he has our full support like he had before and he is going to have it until the end of the season at least.
