EG wilts against Sprout

The Americans head out of Katowice winless.

Sprout and Evil Geniuses went head-to-head in one of the most competitive contests of the IEM Katowice play-in over the course of Ancient and Mirage, with the two sides barely separated. The Americans were looking to reverse their fortunes and bring back some of the luck they had against Heroic in their first matchup of the year.

The first game saw Sprout start off hot on their pick of Ancient by taking a quick 5-1 lead on the offense, but the Americans would quickly find their feet as they slowly, but surely, came back to tie it up at 6-6, just to eventually take the full lead at 9-6.

The match was looking like EG had all the momentum, but a second pistol round loss would force the Americans to fight back from a disadvantaged position once more. Some chaotic back-and-forth rounds would put EG up at 13-9, but from there they would only be able to get one more round on the T-side as they fall 16-14.

With the teams switching to Mirage, there was concern that EG would not be able to keep up any of the momentum that they had before. That would be quickly dashed away as after going down quickly 5-1, despite winning a pistol, they would storm back to win the half 10-5.

That pressure from the Americans would continue into the second half as they win their second pistol and start to separate further at 12-5. But from there, it was all Sprout, all the time. The Europeans were so fast on their T-side and would overpower the Americans as they closed it out 16-13, once again.

Evil Geniuses now look to ESL Pro League for their next competitive match.

yikes. I know Sprout is legit, but this is the level that EG needs to start beating.

Yeah, given EG's pattern of performance they usually come into events as the bottom seed and end up playing top teams so you can never really expect too much from them, but here, they needed the win against Sprout.

They were close and definitely should have closed it out. They had a lot of chances to do that as well. I am getting worried about them, but also not. They're showing more potential than before.

EG aren't looking good imo, sprout pulled those games out of their ass and couldn't punish a team with vulnerabilities
