Bad News Bears get revenge on GODSENT to win ESEA Summer Cash Cup 1

RBG defeated oNe to nab third place on the half American, half Brazilian podium.

Another ESEA Cash Cup has come and gone, with the first Summer iteration seeing 47 teams compete for the $15,000 prize pool.

The first results of note occurred relatively early in the bracket, as a Secret Club formulation featuring Koby "kobruh" Higgs and Kevin "consti" Yi in place of Adam "WolfY" Andersson and Victor "v1c" T. bowed out after a 16-11 loss on Nuke to 7-3 Advanced team Verum. Verum's fellow Advanced squad, 8-1 X13 also found themselves on the wrong side of a 16-9 result on Vertigo to the Latin American mix of SKULLCRACKER, who most notably featured Andres "WIDOW" Lopez.

Also of note is the fact that Recon 5, Third Impact, and HeadShotKings all forfeited matches in this round, due to participating in the simultaneously occurring second qualifier for Phoenix Series.

SKULLCRACKER's tournament life was swiftly ended 16-1 in the next round by Logan "Voltage" Long and a Michigan Tech mix, who then went on to forfeit to paiN in the fourth round. That same round saw RBG, Verum, and GODSENT all take convincing wins off Party Astronauts, RUNnGUN, and Counter Nature, respectively.

The final round of play before the invites sides got involved saw RBG handle paiN without much issue on Vertigo.

Sunday saw Bad News Bears and oNe enter the fray, with each team initially taking on their countrymen of RBG and GODSENT, respectively.

Both series were resolved with 2-0 scorelines, as Bad News Bears elder statesman Peter "ptr" Gurney helped power his squad over RBG on Inferno and Dust2 - though the latter side did manage double-digit rounds on both maps.

This set up the third place match between RBG and oNe, with $2,000 on the line. Starting on Nuke, the North American side looked poised to waltz to the second map of the series with a dominant 12-3 T-side, but the Brazilian's were able to match the feat. Ultimately, however, Jadan "HexT" Postma and co. prevailed in the first overtime, taking the map 19-16.

oNe did not fare as well on Overpass, where Jerric "wiz" Jiang topped the scoreboard for RBG in a 16-6 victory.

The grand final between Bad News Bears and GODSENT went the distance, with the series commencing with each team convincingly taking their opponents' map pick.

This left the third and final map of the series, Overpass, to be the most competitive. Bad News Bears at one point held a 7-2 lead on their opening Terrorist side, but faltered, allowing GODSENT to come back into the map, ending the half down by a lone round.

Bad News Bears took their CT pistol to increase their lead to 9-7, before GODSENT rattled off three rounds in a row to take their first lead of the map. Those would be the last rounds that Epitacio "TACO" de Melo's troops would achieve, however, as Bad News Bears would go on to take seven rounds in a row to take the map, series, and event.
