M80 go down at the finish line in EPL opener
M80 certainly announced their arrival at ESL Pro League Season 19 thanks to a three-map thriller against BetBoom. The squad recovered after a crushing loss on their own pick of Anubis by absolutely dominating on Ancient, but it was Mirage where the squad showed their cracks. With M80 under new leadership with the arrival of Elias "s1n" Stein, it's an evolution for the squad as they begin to form new strategies with the German IGL.
Anubis was a difficult map for M80 as they chose to start on the CT-side and soon found themselves in the hole. Despite winning the opening pistol, M80 were unable to convert the second round and quickly fell behind 1-5. It would not go much better throughout the map despite winning the second half pistol as BetBoom cleaned it up 13-5.
M80 were not done just yet as they absolutely dominated BetBoom's pick of Ancient. Starting out on the CT-side again, M80 would win the pistol and then to everyone's surprise, win the second round. BetBoom would win the third to make it 1-2, but that would be the last round for the Russians as they would be swept aside 13-1 on their own pick.
Finally, Mirage was a real back-and-forth map despite M80 once again winning both pistols of the map. M80 jumped ahead to a 4-1 lead, however BetBoom came roaring back to eventually tie up the half at 6-6 while playing on their T-side. With M80 then switching to the favored defense, they looked like they would be coming home with a victory, but the North Americans started to crumble at the end as BetBoom rallied back to take a close 13-11 win to secure the series 2-1.
M80 will look to rebound Thursday as they take on Sharks who gave Vitality a run for their money earlier today.
