G2 defeat Liquid; Renegades demolish OpTic

The Frenchmen cruised past Liquid in the latter stages of Cache as Renegades tore apart OpTic on Mirage.

Liquid took their T side pistol on Cache, following it up with the typical 3-0 lead. Once Kenny "kennyS" Schrub had his AWP in hand however, G2 began to whittle Liquid's money down, leading to many rounds where both teams were fighting for economical control in the match. At first it seemed like G2 would come out on top as seven out of nine rounds went their way, but Liquid had other ideas as the half drew to a close. Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski and Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken stepped up to the plate in the latter stages of their T side, opening up bombsites so Liquid could take the last four rounds in the half.

G2 secured their first pistol round of IEM Oakland in the second half, and from there they didn't relent. Round after round they tore apart Liquid's CT holds, taking the lead from the North Americans once again. Liquid finally answered back on round 21, surviving with all five players to keep their economy healthy as they looked to make a comeback; unfortunately, G2 shut their hopes down immediately by taking the next two rounds, crushing Liquid's money and putting themselves two rounds away from securing the win. From here G2 had no issue peeling apart Liquid's defense, and kennyS continued having massive impact with his AWP to close out the match for the Frenchmen.

Justin "jks" Savage was on fire to start off Mirage for Renegades, flawlessly picking up nine frags in the first four rounds to build a lead for the lads from down under. Noah "Nifty" Francis seemed to have a game plan in mind as he pushed his team into abusing OpTic's B hold, and on round seven worked with his North American comrade Keith "NAF" Markovic to pick OpTic apart in a two-on-four. From here Renegades had little issue dealing with the Europeans, moving their way up to a 10-0 scoreline with little contest. OpTic ultimately grabbed their first round of the map on round 11, though they were unable to chain rounds together. Despite getting reset, OpTic did take two more rounds in the half, and Renegades closed it out with one last win for themselves to being the score to 12-3 at the half.

Renegades had no intention of giving OpTic a way back into the map, and they showed that as they picked up the second pistol round of the map. OpTic had managed to secure a bomb plant in the first round, so with rifles out on the third they attempted to keep themselves in the match. Three rounds went the way of the Europeans, but the match was so far gone in favor of Renegades that they had no issue closing it out on their CT side once they had rifles of their own.

With this win, G2 have saved themselves from elimination at IEM Oakland. Renegades and Gambit will now face off to determine who is guaranteed a playoffs spot, while FaZe and Liquid will clash in a match of their own. OpTic and G2 will also fight for a playoffs spot, so keep an eye on these last three matches to see who makes it out of Group B.

Dust2 Birthday cake!
Still a nice showing from Liquid with the addition of Steel, I enjoyed how they played and I hope they become more refined.

Wasn't expecting OpTic to fall to Renegades, but then again they were playing Mirage so anything could really happen there.
