Team Liquid beat CLG; secure final Major Qualifier spot

Liquid secures the spot in the Major Qualifier many expected them to achieve and set up a rematch against Misfits in the Grand Final.

These two familiar foes saw themselves meeting at the Americas Minor in the Consolidation Final. Liquid, just coming off of their Lower Bracket win over compLexity, faced up against CLG to secure the final Major Qualifier spot from the Americas Minor.

The series was vetoed onto Inferno, Cache and Overpass. The first map began with Liquid keeping up on their hot form, securing the pistol round and the following anti-ecos. From there Liquid kept on dominating, thanks in part to a strong performance from Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken, securing a 11-0 lead on their T-side. CLG finally managed to take a round of their own but Liquid halted them from taking any sort of base, taking the half 14-1.

The second half was over before it even started. Liquid picked up the pistol round to bring them to match-point, followed by a CLG force-buy that was defeated by a Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken 1v3 clutch at the end to cap off a good game from him, where he secured a 2.30 HLTV rating. This saw Liquid taking a 16-1 win.

The second match saw the two teams take to Cache, and CLG had a much better start here. Being on the T-side, they managed to pick up the pistol round and it's following rounds.  Liquid instantly answered back in the first buy round, securing the following three rounds. CLG managed to take another round of their own to prevent Liquid from taking a lead, but the eventual flood did start. Seeing Liquid take a 10-4 lead, CLG finally answered back to keep them in the game, if only at a 10-5 deficit.

With CLG moving on to their CT-side, they repeat the start of this map taking the pistol and second, but Liquid stole the third round away from CLG. From here a flood of rounds from Liquid came towards CLG, helped along by Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski, leading them up to match point, sitting at 15-7. From there CLG didn't let theirselves get knocked out straight away, with a four-kill round from the Australian Ricardo "Rickeh" Mulholland grinding out more rounds for CLG.

CLG managed to keep Liquid away from securing the game for a number of rounds, including one where the young Ethan "nahtE" Arnold secured an ace to keep his team in the game. One more round came in for CLG, but Liquid's dogged determinism managed to finally secure the game, winning 16-12 and took the series 2-0.
