Hiko's crew seem ready to make a deep run in Austin

DH Austin Day One: Rogue and Heroic to playoffs

Rogue becomes the first North American team through to playoffs, with eUnited and compLexity still having the opportunity to make it in the decider matches.

The first day of DreamHack Austin concluded with Danish team Heroic and the Americans of Rogue securing the first playoff spots in the tournament.

Heroic reached the Group A winners' match after defeating Luminosity 16-11 on Mirage, where Andreas "MODDII" Fridh showed form of old to help the past. In the other match, eUnited took their place after a strong 16-9 win over Fragsters, with Michael "dapr" Gulino pushing his team over the line.

In the one match, it was Heroic who came out ahead, avenging their countrymen with a 16-10 win over the American side. Although eUnited managed to take a strong lead in the first half, being 8-1 up at one point, Heroic came back to make the half time score closer at 9-6. The second half was all Heroic, with Nikolaj "niko" Kristensen leading the performance for his team alongside MODDI.

Group B saw Rogue and Space Soldiers take on the winners' match. Spencer "Hiko" Martin's men reached the tournament after taking down the Danes of OpTic 16-13, where Casper "cadiaN" M-ller was the strongest performer on the server. Space Soldiers on the otherhand dispatched compLexity 16-10 to reach the tie.

The best-of-one was a battle on Dust2, a game which Rogue was always in control for a strong 16-8 win. New boy Ricardo "Rickeh" Mulholland led his team in the server, taking a 1.61 rating, as his team reached ahead to a 9-1 lead. Although the half was shortened to just 10-5, Rogue remained ahead to take the required rounds in the second half for the win.

These results see Rogue and Heroic through to the semifinals on Sunday, with the best-of-three lower bracket games of each group being played today. First will be Fragsters taking on Luminosity, at 11am EDT. Following that will be the battle of Texas, as OpTic face compLexity at 2pm EDT.

The winners of those games will head to the decider matches, with eUnited playing first at 5pm EDT and Space Soldiers finishing the day out at 8pm EDT.
