MIBR take down Gorilla Gang to round out ECS team list

The Brazilians come out on top against the Gorilla Gang.

After news broke out that the SK organization were unable to field a roster for the upcoming season of the Esports Championship Series and that three teams would proceed to the main season, the final match of the Season 6 Challenger Cup ensued, with the winning team moving on to close out the season's list of teams.

The series kicked off on Cache, with MIBR dominating Gorilla Gang off the bat, taking the first nine rounds easily. The MDL team finally found a break in the tenth round, with Victor "food" Wong mowing down three players, followed by cleanup by Cameron "hydrex" Kern giving Gorilla Gang their first round on the board. MIBR resumed their onslaught, with the American team managing to edge out the last two rounds, with the last round of the first half being won by a burning Josh "oSee" Ohm defusing the bomb against two AWPs.

Down 3-12, things began to look up for the gang, as Ryan "ryan" Welsh and hydrex were successful in planting the bomb and winning the pistol round. Converting the win in the next two rounds, things went awry as MIBR returned to their dominance, ultimately closing the map 16-6.

Following some minor technical difficulties, Mirage kicked off as the second map of the series, with Gorilla Gang surprisingly taking the first round through a successful A rush. The hope for the MDL team didn't last long however, as MIBR stringed together five rounds afterwards, easily taking the lead. Optimism for Gorilla Gang swiftly returned in the seventh round, with food and ryan finding the frags to get another round on the board for the team. Gorilla Gang continued to impress, winning seven of the eight following rounds. MIBR closed the half, taking the last two rounds, but unable to take the lead 7-8.

Gorilla Gang initially appeared to be capable of contesting MIBR in the first half, but the second half seemed to be nothing of the sort, as MIBR crushed the MDL squad. While food was able to scrap together one round for his team, it was the only point they were able to find, with MIBR ending the map 16-9 and taking the series 2-0.
