Mythic Cup returns with $5000 Winter tournament

Earlier today, Mythic announced the return of Mythic Cup, starting with an event in just over two weeks time. From December 11th to 13th, eight teams will duke it out for the $5000 prize pool. Erik "fl0m" Flom's event series is a sight for sore eyes for a region with diminishing regional tournaments and a recent reduction in Cash Cup prizepool.

Seven of the eight teams were directly invited while the sole remaining spot is up for grabs via a single-elimination open qualifier gauntlet the day before the main event is set to begin. The format of the main event has yet to be revealed, but we can assume it will follow the tradition of previous Mythic Cups with two groups of four teams facing off in a GSL BO1 format, with deciders and playoffs played in BO3 series. If it follows in the steps of prior Mythic Cups, the prize pool will be split 80/20 with first place receiving $4000 and second place the remaining $1000.

Among invites are a number of top NA teams including M80, Nouns, and Wildcard. Additionally, there is one additional spot for a yet-to-be announced invited team.
