The flopster spoke about his changing roles

floppy on support role: "It's just something that we needed and I had to pick up"

The American rifler stated that frequent travel is not an excuse for unfortunate results.

It's the last event of the season down in Washington D.C., where BLAST is hosting the BLAST Premier Spring Finals. Complexity have been gifted a spot in the finals, but their reward is to immediately play Heroic. The Danes have seemingly struggled in the last few events where they missed out on a chance to get to the Finals at the Major and then fell to MOUZ in Dallas. For Ricky "floppy" Kemery, they are a threat, but there is always a chance for victory. In speaking with Dust2.us' Samuel "Draik04" Popkes, floppy spoke about his own role changes, reflections on Dallas, and what he is planning to do in the summer.

So let's start with Dallas first. How do you guys feel about the results overall, especially considering you having to use a stand-in?

Yeah, I think Dallas was definitely competitive for us, especially with Sonic. We took down EG and the Cloud9 game could have gone our way as well with the 2-0 if we won Inferno. So yeah, I think we're definitely competitive for Dallas.

Can you tell me a little bit about what it's like working with Sonic again?

It's just like the good old days. I loved playing with Sonic back then. That was a lot of fun. It's just fun being around him again after just so much time away.

We interviewed Sonic at Dallas and he said that you guys only squeezed in a full day of practice with him. Have you guys managed to get more in with him since the end of Dallas?

Ohh yeah, we've been practicing since after we had lost to Cloud9, so we've been putting as much reps - as many reps as we can for this event as well.

So with that in mind, what would you say the expectations are for this event?

Our expectations, I mean just try our best and see happens like you can't really expect too much with the stand-in, but we'd like to win like any other team that would be in our situation as well, so.

How you feeling about the opening matchup versus Heroic in particular?

Yeah, I think Heroic are a good team, obviously. I think they're actually favored to win the whole event of Dallas, but they lost to MOUZ, so it was a bit anti-climactic, but I think there's still a good team. So it's going to be a pretty tough game for us.

I think afterwards you'll play FaZe or Astralis, win or lose. How do you feel about them?

They're also some pretty strong teams for the pretty insane group, but I mean this event is also like the highest tier as well. So I mean, they're all good teams, so we'll see what happens.

I want to ask you a little bit about your transition as a player as far as roles go; on Cloud9 and Extra Salt, you were more of this star rifler and now on Complexity, you're more of a supportive element for Grim and hallzerk. Can you tell me a little bit about what that process has been like?

I think I can pretty much like play any role that's needed and on this team we just need a support player that speaks. So I think that's something I'm really good at. That's just talk, especially like if I'm dead, I can kind of micromanage what needs to happen in the mid to late rounds. So I think it's just something that we needed and I had to pick up.

You guys have been doing a lot of travel in the first half of this year. The last two months alone included Dallas, DC, Melbourne, Paris, and Mexico. Has fatigue become an issue for you?

Yeah, well the like you said, it was like every week for the continuous 7 weeks we're in a different country. It's just something we've had to deal with and it's no real excuse for any poor performances. It's just something we have to deal with and and just play the game.

So, you're not going to scale back, maybe in the second half of the year, and just keep up at this ludicrous pace?

Yeah, I think it depends like with CS2 how the events are even going to turn out. I think it's going to be a bit more of a quiet second half of the year considering there's no second Major for CS:GO since the CS2 Major's in March of next year. So I don't think it will be nearly as hectic as the first-half of this year.

Do you have any plans or goals for the second half of the year? Kind of hard when there's not that second Major.

Obviously we would want to qualify for the Major if there was one. So that's the main thing that's on pretty much every team's mind. But I mean, whatever events that are going to happen in the second half of the year, we're gonna just try and qualify for and play our best at.

Last question for you; any plans for the player break?

No plans, just chilling. I mean, like you said, there's just a pretty incredible travel schedule. So I'd like to just chill at home and relax for a bit.I'm not sure what I'm going to do because I'm probably gonna be bored after a week and then want to play CS again. Probably that's what's gonna end up happening.

floppy and his Complexity teammates will be facing off against Heroic at 04:00PM tomorrow.
