The Aussies will be heading to Marseille

Renegades tear down the Green Wall to book Marseille berth

Despite a beastly second map performance from k0nfig, the Australian squad fought through to claim themselves a slot at the $250,000 event.

Victories over NRG and OpTic has seen Renegades into DreamHack Masters Marseille, completing the list of teams who will be attending the event.

The series began on Renegades' pick of Train, where the team found themselves breezing past the defensive setups of OpTic thanks to a stellar performance from Justin "jks" Savage, allowing for the Australian-North American mix to secure their map choice with ease.

OpTic's pick of Overpass was an entirely different ball game as Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke was not to be stopped, picking up two frags almost every single round to end the first half at 32 kills. This ridiculous performance from k0nfig continued into the second half as he struggled to keep OpTic's hopes alive in the series.

Despite being down 11-4 first half, Renegades fought back to keep the map competitive. Noah "Nifty" Francis and co. were able to lock down 13 rounds before OpTic finally closed out the second map, with k0nfig putting up an absolutely unbelievable set of stats by finishing the map with 47 frags, 21 deaths, and 165 ADR. Despite the absolute pummelling from k0nfig, Renegades were still able to win two of the three clutches in the map, and Nifty still managed to come out on top of k0nfig in head-to-head duels.

Inferno was a much simpler affair for Renegades, with OpTic finding themselves economically reset very early on. This gave Renegades the chance to put up eight rounds, with OpTic sitting on a single round until the closing sectors of the half. Once again OpTic managed to garner five rounds in the first half, but much like on Train they found themselves unable to compete against the crossfires and playbook of Renegades.
