Party Astronauts win Mythic Summer Series 2021 Cup 1 over Triumph
The first of the Mythic Summer Series 2021 events has concluded with both grand finalists, Party Astronauts and Triumph, advancing to Fragadelphia 15 with designated travel funds to help get them there.
The opening round didn't feature many surprises, though 7-9 ESEA Advanced side Rectify did manage to create a stir when they took Overpass from Triumph to force their series to the full three maps. Party Astronauts, Recon 5, and CENSRD all advanced to the semifinals with 2-0 victories over Revel, Third Impact, and GGPR, respectively.
The first semifinal was a decisive 2-0 sweep in Party Astronauts' favor where even their bottom frag, Wesley "viz" Harris, outperformed Reese "Wilky" Wilkerson's team-leading 26 frags for Recon 5. Gage "Infinite" Green led all players in the server with 47 kills to launch Party Astronauts into the grand final and secure them a Fragadelphia 15 berth at minimum.

If the first semifinal was a blowout then the second was an even more dramatic example. CENSRD were held to just eleven rounds total between Nuke and Dust2, conceding a 14-1 halftime advantage in the latter map. Jeff "RZU" Ngo led the server with 42 kills as Triumph easily exploited CENSRD's lack of practice in recent weeks.

Second half dominance on the T-side was the theme in the grand final. The first two maps were nearly identical in that the eventual victor trailed 8-7 before winning nine terrorist rounds to claim the map victory.
In the decider however, Triumph squandered a 10-5 halftime lead as they managed to pull together just two defensive victories compared to Party Astronauts' eleven second-half round wins on the back of just four bomb plants. Josh "PwnAlone" Pigue and Infinite led the server with 67 kills apiece, while Brendan "Bwills" Williams was just behind the pair with 66 frags in the loss for Triumph.
Both teams will be qualified for Fragadelphia 15, Party Astronauts will just have a slightly larger budget to facilitate the trip.

Mythic Summer Series 2021 Cup 2 has been announced for July 17-18th and will feature an identical $6,000 prize pool with funding for travel to Fragadelphia 15 built into the winnings. Teams can register for the open qualifier for the event, scheduled from July 15-16th, here.
