ESEA cancel Global Challenge due to continued COVID-19 concerns

We really just can't wait for a return to LANs at this point.

ESEA have announced that once again ESEA MDL Season 35 will not feature the Global Challenge as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. A previous announcement at the beginning of September remained optimistic that such an event could be held, but today's announcement confirms that that will not be the case.

As was the case with the previous Global Challenge, the ESL Pro League spots have been distributed to North America and Europe. Asia and Oceania will each receive a $10,000 bump to the winner's prize money as compensation for the lost opportunity. ESEA will also be working with ESL to secure the victors from each of those regions an invite to a future event.

Once again, the prize pool for the ESL Pro League qualifier will look like this:

  • 1st   - $12,500 + ESL Pro League
  • 2nd - $10,000
  • 3rd  - $5,000

A timeline for when ESEA would like to hold this event was not included within the announcement.
