If you still want to go to China, now is your chance

WESG qualifiers set to start this weekend

This year only one team from North America will be heading to China.

The first WESG American and Canadian qualifiers are set to begin this weekend on the 12th. Hosted by WorldGaming once again, each region will have two open qualifiers for the co-ed and female tournaments.

Unlike last year where Canada and America's qualifiers were on separate days, both regions qualifiers will be on the same days and offer the same prizepool, with the two open qualifiers being on October 12th and October 26th. The winner of each of the respective open qualifiers will automatically qualify to the closed qualifier, while 2nd-6th place will be allotted points with the following breakdown:

  • 2nd Place - 12 points
  • 3rd Place - 6 points
  • 4th Place - 3 points
  • 5th Place - 1 point
  • 6th Place - 1 point

Following the conclusion of both open qualifiers, the four teams with the most points will join the winners of the respective open qualifiers in the closed qualifier.

In both closed qualifiers, the top team will proceed to an offline regional final on December 7th to determine which team will attend WESG 2019. In total, the two closed qualifiers and the regional final will have $61,000 on offer.

This change in the qualification system is notable as in previous years an American team and a Canadian have advanced to the main event while this year only one team will be heading to China.
