Thunder Logic, BBC, Variance, and Zone move on in Advanced playoffs

Four teams remain in the quest to make MDL.

Thunder Logic, BBC, Variance, and Zone have all won their ESEA Advanced quarterfinal matches, moving on to the semis. All four teams are still in contention for the first place promotion to MDL.

The first of the four matches was Oceanic vs Thunder Logic. The first map was Mirage, with the first half going towards the map-pickers, Thunder Logic. They then closed out the map cleanly 16-10. Chris "Slash" Petersen was a key player for his team, going +4 in opening kills and putting up a 1.39 rating over the map.

The second map Inferno was very similar to Mirage, with the first half going 9-6 towards Thunder Logic. Oceanic had a slightly worse second half than the previous map and ended up falling 9-16 on map two. Slash once again was the main player for Thunder Logic, putting up 23 kills and 116 ADR on Inferno.

Next up was the main game of the day, The Quest taking on BBC. The Quest started off the series strong, winning 13 rounds in a row on Mirage. In their 16-4 win on the first map, Jonathan "Jonji" Carey was the primary force, taking 23 frags and putting up 103 ADR.

The second map was a lot closer, with The Quest only winning the first half 9-6. They couldn't close it in the end though as after hitting 14 rounds they lost six rounds in a row to lose 14-16 on Nuke. Despite losing in the end, Jack "xCeeD" Holiman still put up 29 kills and a 1.36 rating.

Inferno was yet again closer between the two teams, with The Quest only leading 8-7 at the end of the half. They once again hit 14 rounds with ease, but this time lost seven rounds in a row to drop another map 14-16. Marshall "Minus" Sedowicz was the key player for BBC, going +11 and hitting a 1.46 rating in the map.

The third match of the quarterfinals was the closest of the four matches, going to three maps, one of which was overtime. The first half of Mirage was quite back and forth, with Variance gaining the edge 9-6 going into their T side. BLITZKRIEG kept it up in the second half and secured overtime, which they eventually won 19-15. Ian "Tex" Botsch was the main player for his team on map one, securing 40 frags and 119 ADR.

Variance was much stronger on map two, going up 6-0 and ending the first half 9-6. They also managed to close out the win in the end of Train 16-11. Ezekiel "KmZ" Hughes was the primary force for his team on the second map, taking 26 kills and 103 ADR for himself.

BLITZKRIEG didn't seem to be fazed by Train, and fought their way to a 7-4 lead on map three. However, Variance answered back by going 8-7 at the end of the half and having a strong Terrorist side afterwards. This time it was George "Powerzz" Yaede to step up for Variance, putting up 26 frags and 106 ADR over the 27 rounds on Overpass.

The final match of the evening was Zone vs slashLEVEL. Despite an early 6-0 lead by Zone, slashLEVEL responded by going 8-1 themselves and evening the score in the first half. They kept up the form in the second half, going 8-3 from the T side and winning the map 16-10. Joshua "KiiroKami" Kim was the key player for slashLEVEL, with a solid 25 kills and 104 ADR.

slashLEVEL got the early momentum on Dust 2 going up 5-2, but Zone fought back and edged the lead 8-7 by the side switch. A clean Terrorist half from Zone allowed them to even the series by taking map two 16-10. Alexander Diaz was the main player for his team this time, with 109 ADR and a 1.44 rating.

After taking a map, Zone really got into the zone and kicked off map three with a strong 11-4 halftime score. After losing six rounds on the T side, they managed to close out the victory 16-10 and the series 2-1. Mike "Swisher" Schmid stepped up big for his team with his 30 frags and 116 ADR on Nuke.

Thunder Logic will take on BBC in the semifinals, while Variance will play Zone for a spot in the final. The losers of the semifinals will still have a chance to qualify for MDL, with relegation taking place after the playoffs and tiebreakers conclude.
