WESG 2018 Day Two: Altima, Imperial and Canadians sent packing
The final three teams from the Americas region were in action on the second day of WESG 2018, with Mexico's Altima, Brazil's Imperial and Canada's WARDELL N Friends all taking part in the best-of-two round robin group stage.
Group F was home to the most Americas teams, with WARDELL N Friends and Imperial on play. Imperial were the first to play, with their first game being against the Chinese team Panda, where after a 16-9 loss on Overpass they secured a 16-8 win on Mirage to take a draw. WARDELL N Friends weren't as lucky in their first game, where a close 2-0 loss was taken against Russia after a 19-17 overtime defeat on Dust2 before a 16-14 Mirage loss.

The next two matches saw the two teams fortunes swap, with WARDELL N Friends taking a 2-0 win over Panda, with a 16-11 victory on Dust2 before a close 19-17 overtime victory on Mirage. Imperial on the other hand suffered a 2-0 defeat to Russia, after a 22-18 double overtime loss on Train before a less close 16-9 loss on Mirage.

At this stage, WARDELL N Friends were above Imperial and looking like they could potentially clinch a second place qualification spot, but it wouldn't end like that. The two teams played in two close maps against each other, with Imperial taking the opening Inferno 16-13 before finishing the job with a 16-14 win on Mirage. Unfortunately for the Brazilian team, this didn't secure them qualification, as Panda managed to take a 2-0 victory over Russia and go through by virtue of being one round ahead on round difference.

Altima were placed in Group H. They first played Viva Algeria on Dust2, with the Algerians taking a 16-12 win on the map before they transitioned to Mirage, where an overtime saw the loss confirmed in a 19-17 scoreline. Altima then faced off against Chiefs, where a double-overtime on Overpass saw them take a 22-20 loss, before a 16-10 Mirage match placed another loss on their record.

At this point, there was still a small chance for Altima to get through, as they played Thai team ALPHA Red. If they picked up a 2-0 win here, and the other result went their way, they'd have secured a place in the playoffs. Unfortunately for the Mexicans, a swift 16-4 Overpass defeat was followed by a 16-9 defeat on Inferno and their tournament hopes were dashed.

These results meant that only Singularity and MIBR will be the representatives of the Americas region in the WESG 2018 playoffs. The two teams have been placed on opposite sides of the bracket, with Singularity facing Valiance tomorrow at midnight EDT and MIBR will facing Viva Algeria at 6:30 AM EDT.
