The qualifiers for NA are right around the corner

Valve pushes Ranking Update ahead of RMR Closed Qualifier Invites

With the Closed Qualifier invites going on the 18th, this update is a preview of what's to come.

Yesterday, Valve published an update to their Regional Standings, marking the first update in over a month. With the recent announcement by PGL on December 7th, this latest update will be the final snapshot of the scene before Valve pushes another update and PGL send out invites for each region's respective Closed Qualifier on December 18th. As such, this update is incredibly important as it illustrates which teams will have a potentially easier road to Counter-Strike 2's first major — PGL Major Copenhagen 2024.

At the moment, the list of teams that would earn spots in the NA Closed Qualifier are as follows:

1) United States Complexity
2) M80
3) United States Nouns
4) United States Evil Geniuses

5) United States Badass
6) United States Party Astronauts
7) United States BOSS
8) United States Unjustified

It is worth noting that despite Liquid ranked as the second-best North American team, their roster is that of their ill-fated European adventure. As Liquid only retained two players from that roster, they will need to play in the open qualifiers in order to earn a spot in the closed qualifier. Additionally, it is currently unknown if Evil Geniuses intend on sticking together heading into 2024, as Jadan "HexT" Postma was recently scooped up by NRG and Timothy "autimatic" Ta is set to take a break from competition.

As always, as a living document of the history of the Counter-Strike 2 scene, Valve's ranking leaves much to be desired. However, with the invites for the Closed Qualifier right around the corner, all eyes are now on Valve's GitHub as it will light the way to CS2's first Major.

Assuming Complexity stay above Furia in the rankings, then NA should get the extra spot for 8 total.

"If a region must be subdivided to accommodate ping of participating teams (e.g., AMER -> NA and SA), RMR invitations will be split evenly among the regions. If invitations cannot be evenly split, the remaining invitation(s) will be granted to the subdivided qualifier featuring the team with the highest Regional Standing."

Of course that text uses the term "invitations" which is confusing, but it's under the section about the Closed Qualifier format.
