ESL postpone future NA Cash Cups amidst reevaluation of event

NA has lost a lifeline event as ESL evaluates its future.

After a month since the last ESEA Cash Cup in North America, Dust2.us has confirmed with ESL that the company has decided to postpone future Cash Cups in NA as they look to evaluate the future of the event series. The decision to temporarily suspend the event series, which has been described as a "lifeline" for the NA scene will undoubtedly be controversial amidst recent changes to the ESL Challenger League that have been received negatively by NA pros for their impact on the region.

ESL's Product Marketing Manager Alexander "Aluminati" Rymaszewski told Dust2.us that ESL made the decision to temporarily suspend future standalone NA Cash Cups to study restructuring the event series. An example he gave of a potential direction Cash Cups could evolve is into something like the Cash Cup Circuit, which notably offered an increased prizepool and an EU bootcamp at the end of the circuit.

As part of the study, ESEA recently posted a Twitter survey to better understand what demographics play Cash Cups and which do not.

When asked if ESL has a timeline for a decision to be made on the future of Cash Cups, Aluminati could not confirm, but hopefully, it will not be long as North America does not have a diverse offering of events like in Europe.

I would be in favor of continuing the Cash Cup Circuit, or partnering with Fragadelphia, OR anything... as long as NA continues to get events.

We really need another big TO... EFG domination in NA is not a good thing.
