WCA North America Qualifier Recap

A breakdown of the two qualifiers for the North America Regional Finals

The North America regional finals for the World Cyber Arena 2017 are set to take place this October, where four invited teams will clash against four qualified teams for a portion of the 127,500 Yuan prize pool and one spot at the WCA World Finals later this year. Two open qualifiers, each with two spots at the regional finals up for grabs, were run in mid-July and mid-August, and saw many North American and South American teams taking part.

The first qualifier, which had eight teams all from Latin America, saw Miami Flamingos e-Sports (now Gale Force Esports) skip directly to the final after a BYE in the quarterfinals and their semifinal opponent forfeiting. VAULT also secured a spot at the LAN Finals, beating notable teams Gorilla Core e-Sports and Team Jaguar in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively.

The second qualifier comprised of 17 teams with participants such as Adaptation, Gorilla Core, Rise Nation, Team Dignitas Female, and both new Tempo Storm squads. The two teams to advance were Rise Nation, who beat The Fundamentals, Tempo Storm SE, and Gorilla Core, and Tempo Storm BR who took down Clockwork, Final Feature Gaming, and Eclipse GG. These results show the continuing streak of Rise Nation’s success in online qualifiers recently, and that the former paiN Gaming players are meshing well with their new teammates.
