Bad News Bears defeat RBG to win ESEA Summer Cash Cup 5

Time to carry that momentum across the ocean and to the moon.

Bad News Bears went out on a high note domestically before starting their European adventure this week. The ESL Pro League bound side captured yet another ESEA Cash Cup title, this time with a 2-1 win over RBG in the grand final. Triumph bested Third Impact in the consolation match to secure third.

A number of notable teams were in action during the opening rounds, including Moe's Gummies, the roster featuring Jake "Stewie2K" Yip, Tarik "tarik" Celik, Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham, Michael "Grim" Wince, and Justin "FaNg" Coakley. The major winning core and their teammates were ousted in the penultimate round of day one following a 16-10 loss to Triumph on Nuke.

When it came to ESEA Premier sides Mythic made an early exit after losing to Eros Black, while the Eros "A team" lost to DETONATE. ChocoCheck rounded out the Premier participants, they were defeated by Third Impact during the latter side's run into day two of Cash Cup play.

In the quarterfinals Third Impact faced their demons and were able to best Party Astronauts, RBG took down GGPR in overtime, Triumph blew out Eros Black, and Bad News Bears wiped the floor with Triton.

The first semifinal went the distance after Triumph snagged a 1-0 series lead on Mirage following a strong defensive performance where they allowed Bad News Bears just two T-sided rounds. But the stags only seemed to poke the bear with that opening map victory, as Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman rallied his troops to victory on Overpass and then Nuke, both times securing double-digit totals in their first half of play. Triumph's new young gun, Jeorge "jeorgesnorts" Endicott, led the way for his side with 56 kills, while Michael "Swisher" Schmid led all players with 60 frags in the series.

RBG comfortly advanced through the other semifinal and onto the grand final with a 2-0 sweep, thanks largely in part to the duo of Connor "chop" Sullivan and Jerric "wiz" Jiang, who each finished with 40 frags. Brett "brett" Rhein led Third Impact with 33 kills as his team fell to the third place match to play for the smallest portion of the prize pool.

Bad News Bears appeared set to sweep the grand final after opening the series with a decisive 12-3 half and prompt T-sided finish on RBG's map pick, Overpass. But RBG wrestled Dust2 away to even the series, in spite of 16 AWP kills from Paytyn "junior" Johnson. Gabe "Spongey" Greiner was the X-factor that got Bad News Bears over the finish line on Nuke, with nearly half of his 64 kills in the series being found on the deciding map.
