Riot Squad attended the MSI Gaming Arena LAN in September and were knocked out of the event with a 0-2 record

A report by Polygon reveals that Riot Games, developer of popular MOBA game League of Legends, have filed a lawsuit against the Riot Squad esports organization over the trademarking of "Riot" in relation to the esports landscape.

Riot Squad is involved in Fortnite, Rainbow Six Siege, and Counter-Strike, having signed their lineup back in June of this year.

Riot Games have requested that Riot Squad are denied access to the use of the word "Riot" in any of their products or media as well as reimburse them for the "damages for its use" thus far.

Riot Games cite the use of the word "Riot" in large lettering on the Riot Squad apparel as a glaring issue, marketing the word under a name other than their own.

In regards to the motives behind the Riot Squad naming process, Riot Games says:

[Riot Squad] hopes and intends that by its use of the Riot brand name, consumers will mistakenly believe that its esports organization is in some manner associated with, sponsored or endorsed by, or otherwise affiliated with Riot and its hugely popular products and services.

Riot Games was founded in 2006, releasing League of Legends in 2009, while Riot Squad has only come into the esports scene as of this year.

Riot Games vs. Mobile Legends was reasonable, maybe even justified.

This is just stupid from them. Looks like whenever a crowd gathers together, Riot’s gonna sue them all for attempting to be “affiliated with Riot”.

With everything Richard Lewis has exposed about these self righteous narcissists, this is definitely in line with what they'd do. It's so laughable.
