Ghost look to alloy themselves with Subroza over steel
After spending just over eight months with Ghost, steel may be on the chopping block.

steel may be on his way out of the team

Ghost may be parting ways with in-game leader Joshua "steel" Nissan, according to a report by Rush B Media. The potential move would see Yassine "Subroza" Taoufik return to the team's roster after being removed following the addition of Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir at the start of the year, with whom the team has already placed 3-4th with at iBUYPOWER Masters 2019 following a pair of wins over FaZe.

Ghost confirm freakazoid

Since the addition of steel, Ghost impressed at a number of LAN showings in 2018, most notably topping the ZOTAC Cup Masters Americas Regional Finals and defeating OpTic before exiting the ZOTAC Cup Masters Grand Finals in 3-4th with a loss to Kinguin. The team also managed to secure an upset best-of-one win over Natus Vincere at DreamHack Masters Stockholm before being reverse swept 1-2 in series play against NiP and a rematch against the CIS side.

Unfortunately, the team's results took a downturn towards the latter portion of the year, achieving a 5-6th placing at cs_summit 3, falling to Luminosity in the semifinals of DreamHack Open Atlanta, and narrowly missing out on a playoffs berth at ESL Pro League Season 8 Finals after being reverse swept again by Natus Vincere. Although the team managed a 3-4th placing at iBUYPOWER Masters following the addition of freakazoid, Rush B reports that internal issues have now arisen regarding communication on the team.

WARDELL re-signs with Ghost on a multi-year deal

Due to steel's Valve ban, the team are unable to compete with their in-game leader in CS:GO Majors, as well as FACEIT's ECS League. Most recently, Ghost were unable to qualify for the IEM Katowice Americas Minor, as they were forced to field their coach James "JamezIRL" Macaulay, and also failed to secure qualification to IEM Sydney after a narrow loss to eUnited in the consolidation final.

If the move is to come to fruition, Ghost's roster would look as follows:

  • ca Matthew "Wardell" Yu
  • us Kenneth "koosta" Suen
  • us Jason "neptune" Tran
  • us Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir
  • ca Yassine "Subroza" Taoufik
  • us James "JamezIRL" Macaulay (Coach)

ESL Pro League moves offline for Season 9

Ghost currently have no events lined up as they await the end of the IEM Katowice Major, and are next slated to appear in the LAN debut of ESL Pro League Season 9. Additionally, an invite to the ECS Season 7 Challenger Cup could also be in the cards for the team.
