Waves eGaming Opening Tournament delayed to Spring 2019

The tournament will no longer be opening the venue as initially planned.

Waves eGaming has announced over social media that it has pushed back the starting date of its CS:GO Opening Tournament to spring of 2019, several months later than the event's initial start date, which was also previously delayed.

The CS:GO Opening Tournament was first set to kick off on September 28th, but was  later pushed back to October 19th due to the venue's opening being delayed, before eventually being delayed to next year. It is currently unknown why the opening tournament was delayed, however the venue is expected to still open in the coming weeks.

Due to the abrupt nature of the delay, Waves eGaming have stated that they have reached out to teams for refunds and may compensate those with travel accomodations already set.

Prior to the announcement of the delay, ten complete teams were signed up for the  tournament, including cantwinalan, who previously won the tournament's online qualifier under the BlackOut organization, winning $500 along with $2,500 in travel support.

With the event set to play out next year and the exact start date still unreleased, it is unknown whether any of the teams will still commit to attending the $10,000 event.

They sent this out to everyone -

Hi All,
Please see the below message from the board,

“Dear participating players,
We are sorry to inform you that the Waves eGaming Grand Opening CS:GO Tournament will be delayed until Spring 2019 due to unforeseen circumstances.

However, we will be refunding all participants' fees and compensate traveling teams who booked flights and accommodation.
Please reply with proof of cancellation fees(if applicable) and we will compensate you for the amount.

To make things right, we will double the prize pot, include double elimination brackets, provide discounted hotel rates, and will be held on Saturday and Sunday only. We will announce the dates three months in advance, giving ample time for participating teams to find cheaper travel and accommodation options.

Qualified teams will still get free registration to the Tournament and Top 2 teams from the qualifier will be provided travel confirmation 2 months ahead.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we hope to see you next spring.”

Oof, very unfortunate, but definitely a good thing that they're willing to continue with the tournament, make things right with the teams, and even increase the prize pot.
