stanislaw is extremely confident in his team's map pool

stanislaw: "We're prepared for any single veto possible"

The Canadian in-game-leader shows little concern over his team's next match at the Major.

After qualifying for the New Legends Stage, compLexity kicked off their appearance with  a 16-4 upset over Fnatic, propelling the North American team into the 1-0 pool. With the relatively young and determined team looking to make their way to the playoffs, our local Brit Michael "Duck" Moriarty caught up with Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz to discuss compLexity's performance against Fnatic, stanislaw's own performance in the match, and the team's expectations looking back and going forward in London.

So, you got the opening win in the Major against a team that not many people would've thought you would have played and won against in Fnatic. Do you have any response after causing a very fairly major upset?

In our eyes, I don't think it's an upset. Obviously from the outside, people are going to say that Fnatic's a better team, but I think if we continue to play the way we do, we can take on anybody.

I've got a feeling certain teams will see this map win on Inferno against Fnatic as a wake-up call for them and initiate a straight-up ban of the map you've played pretty much the entire tournament. I'd imagine you'd have a back-up plan, so are you worried that Inferno — which is effectively your best map at the moment — could be banned?

Yeah, we're just ready for any map. We bootcamped really hard before the Major so we're prepared for any single veto possible.

So you're not worried about teams straight-up banning Inferno?

Not at all.

You won the last game in a very dominant fashion. As in-game-leader, what was your process for claiming the win?

I think the dominant fashion comes from just everyone playing their best. We made a lot of plays on CT-side on both bomb sites and I think, if you shut down both B control and A control, then there's not really much the terrorists can do anymore so I'm just super proud of my whole team. We all played great on both sides of the map.

You yourself had a good performance on the map, leading in the entire server with 23 kills and a 1.93 rating. Being an in-game-leader, which is not traditionally where you top-frag, so was your performance today indicative of the form you know you have or was it one of those days and you just felt everything clicking for yourself?

Personally, I don't care about stats one bit. As long as I do my job, then I'm happy. If I'm letting my team down, then I'll try to bring up other aspects in terms of just pumping them up and staying positive, but yeah I really don't care about stats at all.

But does it not feel slightly good to know you were the best player on the server, including people like JW, krimz, etc.?

Personally it feels good, obviously, but at the end of the day it's just all about the win.

You're through to the next round of the Major tomorrow and also qualified for IEM Katowice 2019 without having to go through the Americas Minor again. Does knowing that you're qualified for the next Major take some weight off the team's shoulders?

It's definitely a huge weight off our shoulders like you said. I think we kind of exceeded our own expectations at this point, being that we just wanted to qualify for this stage. And now that we already have a win under our belt and we don't have to worry about the qualifier like you said, it just allows us moving forward to just have full confidence and kind of play a lot more loose.

The games haven't all completed yet obviously, but we know some other teams are coming through, such as BIG and Liquid and G2. If you can think of a team you'd most likely want to play against tomorrow in the 1-0 pool to potentially set you off on a final map shootout to go to the playoffs, who would you want to most play in that game?

We probably want to play BIG again because we've already played them and I think we match up against them pretty well. The other teams are probably going to give us a more difficult game, but at the end of the day we're going to be ready for our new one. We're going to approach any team the same way we approached teams today. We're just going to be ready for our next game.

compLexity will return to the Major tomorrow, where they are currently in the 1-0 pool for the New Legends Stage. Their second match will be up against G2, who edged out a win over HellRaisers 22-20 in the first round.
