Third Impact lock down final spot in DreamHack Open June

The placing should soften the blow of narrowly missing out on ESEA Premier playoffs.

After the consolidation final went the distance, Third Impact emerged victorious and booked the final spot in DreamHack Open June. They beat X13 2-1, ending the ESEA Advanced side's Cinderella run one map shy of the main event.

X13 came out looking as upset-minded as they had throughout the entire Closed Qualifier and quickly secured an 11-4 lead in the opening half of the series. They stretched that lead to 15-7 after switching to the T-side of Dust2 and converted map point on their own pick on their third opportunity to snag a 1-0 series lead. John "jtmythic" Timmermann led all players with 23 kills, but Keanu "DaneJoris" Reyes wasn't far behind with 22 frags of his own for Third Impact.

Things started to look like X13 could sweep their ESEA Premier foe after they seized a slimmer 9-6 halftime lead on Mirage, but this time Third Impact came roaring back and regained the momentum that they needed on their second-half, CT side. Brett "brett" Rhein led the way with 22 frags for Third Impact as they completely shut down X13 in the second half, where they allowed their ESEA Advanced opposition just two rounds. Devin "AtomiK" Ferrell's server-leading 25 kills weren't enough to keep Third Impact from drawing the series level.

Third Impact carried that momentum into the Overpass decider and walked all over the X13 defense, finishing their T side with a 12-3 lead. They closed out the map at their leisure and converted their first match, series, and qualifier point to book their ticket to next week's DreamHack Open event. DaneJoris and jtmythic led their teams in kills once again, this time with 32 and 20, respectively.

The finalized lineup for DreamHack Open June is now:

Extra Salt Brazil GODSENT
Brazil O PLANO Brazil paiN
United States Party Astronauts United States RBG
United States Triumph United States Third Impact

The $70,000 event will begin in just over a week on Tuesday the 29th. If the current world rankings are utilized, Third Impact's reward for their win last night will be a matchup with Extra Salt.
