Triumph qualify for DreamHack Open June; Third Impact to face X13 for final spot

The new-look Triumph looked even newer, with 3ARK00Z playing in place of Cooper.

The DreamHack Open June Closed Qualifier commenced on Thursday, and saw the first of two teams advance to the main event last night after Triumph decisively defeated X13.

The first round of the double-elimination qualifier saw numerous unexpected results, with the exception of Triumph easily handling upstart Advanced side Triton. Perhaps the most shocking result of the tournament saw Counter Nature topple Third Impact 2-0, casting their Premier opposition down to the lower bracket.

A stand-out performance from Erik "fl0m" Flom helped Mythic edge out GGPR, in a series that saw all three maps go the distance or beyond. The final match of the opening round saw ChocoCheck fall to X13 2-0 after forfeiting the first map due to being late.

On the second day of play, ChocoCheck and Triton bowed out in the first round of the lower bracket, the latter in 2-0 fashion to Chase "lowrider" Releford and GGPR, and the latter with a series forfeit to Third Impact due to being unable to field a full roster.

In the upper bracket, Mythic were no match for Triumph, with stand-in Omar "3ARK00Z" Elyyan topping the scoreboard in a swift 2-0 series where the stream team mustered only nine rounds in total. Counter Nature were unable to continue their winning ways after their earlier upset of Third Impact, falling 2-1 to fellow Advanced squad X13.

Things did not improve for Mythic and Counter Nature the next day, as both teams were eliminated in the second round of the lower bracket. fl0m's men put up a tough fight against Third Impact, but Keanu "DaneJoris" Reyes' 82 kills across the series gave the latter Premier side the edge they needed.

Counter Nature, on the other hand, were manhandled by GGPR, with the trio of Brandon "Sharkie" Ly, Brody "BeaKie" Kelly, and Sean "Inseaniac" Morrison all dropping 40 kills across two maps.

The two victors then faced each other in the lower bracket final, where Third Impact emerged victorious after 16-14 nailbiters on Nuke and Inferno. Noah "insane" Eheart's men led both maps at the half, and survived comeback scares from GGPR to advance to the consolidation final.

The upper bracket final was a straightforward affair, with X13 only truly challenging Triumph on the opening half of Vertigo. For the remainder of the series, the Advanced team would only notch eight rounds, meanwhile Brendan "Bwills" Williams and Tyler "tweiss" Weiss helped power Triumph to a series victory and DreamHack Open June berth. Devin "AtomiK" Ferrell led the way for X13 in the loss.
